Hope Public Schools will be moving to an online system that will allow full video and high speed downloads to all systems on the campus.
Hope School Technology Director Jeff Matlock spoke to the school board briefly about the final steps to have fiber-optic cables installed district wide.Matlock sought the board's approval in February to apply for funding for technology expansions.
He told board members this month that the funding process is now complete and that the district will be able to move forward with the project.
“The stimulus money really helped us out,” he said.
With the stimulus money, the cost to the district is greatly reduced, according to Matlock.
“So our district costs for each year will be $9,750 to put fiber-optics to every campus,” he said.
Matlock said Nor-Light will take care of everything  related to installation of the new system.
He said the project should be underway within the next two weeks and should be completed by September or October.
“They have already laid the groundwork with Hope Water and Light. There will be 185 pole connects in this town,” Matlock said.
He said all internal networking will eventually be replaced. He said the stimulus money taking so long caused companies to drop pricing in fear they may lose accounts which also added to the school being able to be more efficient with the entire undertaking.
