An engineering report on the condition of the Martindale Clinic building roof is expected to be forwarded to the City of Hope next week; but, preliminary expectations leave some doubts.
Hope City Manager Catherine Cook said Friday that she expects to receive a letter next week from Texarkana architect Mark Bailey which will outline options based upon the engineering report.
Bailey told a group of about two dozen board members and supporters of the Charitable Christian Medical Clinic here Monday that roofing work will be the most challenging aspect of turning the former clinic into a usable home for the CCMC.
“They looked at the walls and the condition of the roof,” Cook said Friday. “I think we’re going to have to do something with the roof.”
She said Bailey had explained Monday that a complete tear down and rebuild of the roof might be likely.
“I think he may be leaning toward taking it all off, but I think we’ll have to see whether it is part of the contract or not,” Cook said. That distinction will determine how much of the $185,000 in grant money remaining for the City’s part of the renovation will be required.
Bailey said Monday that the roof could likely be retrofitted, or replaced with a membrane roofing system, or a low slope metal roof.
