Texarkana-based Texarkana Funeral Home has acquired Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home in Hope as well as Pharr Funeral Home in Prescott, and Pharr Funeral Home in Gurdon, Arkansas. The acquisition, announced Thursday, was effective Wednesday.

Texarkana-based Texarkana Funeral Home has acquired Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home in Hope as well as Pharr Funeral Home in Prescott, and Pharr Funeral Home in Gurdon, Arkansas. The acquisition, announced Thursday, was effective Wednesday.
While the name will change to Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Homes, all existing staff of all three locations is expected to remain the same.
“We’ve been serving our community of Texarkana since 1939, and look forward to serving the communities of Hope, Prescott, and Gurdon long into the future,” said Vickers Fuqua, President of Texarkana Funeral Home. “We expect our brand to only strengthen, as well as build upon the legacy of the Herndon name.”
“Hope, Prescott, and Gurdon are a good towns for our business model,” said Thomas Fuqua, Vice President of Texarkana Funeral Home. “We believe in knowing our families, and treating them like they are our own. You are not just a number with us, and we strive to treat everyone with the dignity and respect you deserve during the grieving process.”
“We believe in investing in the communities we serve,” said Fuqua. “We are committed to supporting our local non-profits, law enforcement and first responders, and local colleges.”
When asked what changes to expect, Fuqua responded, “We are in the process of remodeling the Hope location this year, and will start planning for our Prescott and Gurdon locations in 2018. We hope to have a Grand Opening later in 2017 once the renovations are complete.”
Discussions with staff  and ownership have been ongoing since August, and operations are expected to continue as normal throughout the transition. Changes to services are expected to include an upgrade in casket selection to Batesville Caskets, and an increase in staffing. Scott Brown will continue to serve as General Manager and Funeral Director of all three locations. He is supported by Farron Wroblewski as Funeral Director and Embalmer, Dana Kilcrease as office manager of Hope and Pam Chappell as office manager of Gurdon.
Memory Gardens Cemetery in Hope will also be included in this acquisition. It will continue to be operated out of the Hope funeral home.
Texarkana Funeral Home was started in 1939 in Texarkana, Texas. It currently owns and operates three funeral homes in Texarkana, one in New Boston, Texas and another in DeKalb, Texas. In addition, they own Hillcrest Memorial Park and Memorial Gardens Cemetery, both perpetual care cemeteries in Texarkana, Hillcrest Crematory in Texarkana, and Unique Flowers and Gifts in Texarkana.
