With Hempstead County's Bicentennial year coming in 2018, the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council is launching a special project called “A Year in the Life of Hempstead County” to will solicit photographs by local amateur and professional photographers and aims to capture the spirit, enthusiasm, culture, landscape, people and unique character of Hempstead County.

With Hempstead County’s Bicentennial year coming in 2018, the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council is launching a special project called “A Year in the Life of Hempstead County” to will solicit photographs by local amateur and professional photographers and aims to capture the spirit, enthusiasm, culture, landscape, people and unique character of Hempstead County.
"This photographic look through the eyes of area citizens will give a unique historical perspective to a 'Year in the Life of Hempstead County,'" said George Smith, executive director of the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council.
Beginning Friday, September 1, photographers are invited to send photos they believe depict the best that Hempstead County has to offer, Smith said, “If it lives in this county, grows here and is important to the citizens, we want a permanent photographic reminder for the bicentennial year."
"Imagine," he said, "that this collection of photographs will be a part of an enduring historical record for Hempstead County. These photos, taken by your family, neighbors and friends, will be enjoyed for generations and will show what we were doing during the county's 200th Anniversary."
Digital camera or smartphone photographs are acceptable, but each photo must be at least 1MB in size.  Here are the rules for participating:
• Photos must be sent individually to HCbicentennialphotos@gmail.com
• Each photo must be a jpg. file and include:
• Full name of artist
• Date photo was taken
• Equipment used: Canon 5D, 200 mm. lens; Smartphone, etc.
• Contact information: address, phone number, email address
• Location of photo, example: Highway 73; Old Washington, etc.
• Name(s) of people in photo (if applicable)
• Stated permission in the email to use photo in visual and print publication. “I give the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council permission to use this photo.”
Example of how required information could be transmitted:
Photographer: C. Jason Smith; September 20, 2017; Smartphone with Camera+ app; 11258 Nevada 31, Emmet, 870-555-6466; cjsmith@gmail.com; Highway 29 N.; landscape; I give SWAAC permission to use this photo.
Smith said that members of the Arts Council, plus a select group of professional photographers, will select photos to be included in the Bicentennial Collection. The Arts Council have a special showing of the photographs in the fourth quarter of 2018.
“This is a chance for every photographer, regardless of equipment and experience, to share their vision of what Hempstead County means to them. Start taking photos and send them in beginning September 1,” Smith said.
