The Hope Bobcats hit the hardwood for some intense 5A Southwest Conference hoops action at home on this past Friday night, January 27, hosting the Little Christian Warriors for their first meeting of the conference season at Jones Field House Gymnasium.
HHS fought hard early in first half action, but LR Christian would be victorious over Hope. The Bobcats fell short to the Warriors, 48-32.
The Bobcats kept their contest close with the Warriors in the first half. The Bobcats took a early 4-0 lead down to the 6:46 mark, with Vincent Love and Keontaye Wesley scoring baskets.
The Warriors battled back to take a 6-4 lead down to the 3:15 mark, but a three-pointer by Torre Greene gave Hope a 7-6 lead with under 20 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
The Warriors fired back with a trey at the buzzer as the Bobcats trailed LR Christian 9-7 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, the Bobcats and the Warriors continued to stay close. Hope opened up a 21-13 lead over the Warriors down to the 2:32 mark.
Bobcats' Love, Jamauryon Pree, Kenneth Thompson and Greene all scored baskets and a trey by Chris Thornton gave Hope a eight point advantage.
Later, the Warriors rallied back scoring the last seven points of the half, as the Bobcats had a one point lead at halftime, 21-20.
In the second half, a strong third quarter by the Warriors out-scoring Hope 17-1, lifted them in control with the lead holding the Bobcats to one point in the quarter, 37-22.
In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats fought back with strong contributions by Greene nailing his second trey from behind the arc and Love going on a scoring spree hitting six points pulled the Bobcats within 11 points, 43-32 down at the 2:52 mark.
The Warriors maintain baskets for the final two minutes of action, as the Warriors handed the Bobcats another tough loss in conference play.
For game action, Bobcats' Love led scoring in double-figures with 14 points for the seventh conference battle of the season and Greene added eight points along swishing two trey's from behind the arc.
The Bobcats (1-6, 4-13) now look for revenge against the Hot Springs Trojans to a conference rematch on the road this Tuesday night.
Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., beginning with junior varsity action, followed by senior high girls and boys action in Hot Springs.
