Every year about this time the U.S. Department of Agriculture makes me laugh my head off by estimating the cost of raising a child to the age of 18.This year, that number (for a baby born last year to middle-income parents) is solemnly declared to be $245,000.Hahahaha!That’s ridiculous. You do not need to devote around a quarter of a million dollars to raising a child.
