The 65 Annual Southwest Arkansas Fair and Rodeo Parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the intersection of Sixth and Elm Streets in Hope.
The 2009 parade theme is Counties for Keepers (not Cash for Clunkers) and the Grand Marshall ‘09 is James Singleton, Hempstead County sheriff’s chief deputy.
Again this year, pre-registration is a requirement. All parade participants must pre-register by noon Tuesday, whether an entry is to be judged or not. Pre-register by calling 870-777-6772 and ask for Eddie or Judy.
“All judged entrants must come by the green tent at the Sixth and Elm Streets to pick up their number by 4:30 p.m.,” Eddie Brazzel, parade chairman said.
All horses must be checked in by 5:45 p.m. at the green tent located on South Elm Street behind the Main Street Cleaners, Parrish Equipment, and Dominoes Pizza.
The parade will begin at Sixth and Elm Streets, then, go north on Elm to Division, turn right, go two blocks to Walnut Street, turn right, go one block to Second Street, turn left, go three blocks to Shover Street, go right and end up at the Village Shopping Center parking lot.
“Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions concerning the concerning the parade, Eddie or Judy at 870-777-6772, but remember that any one or any group does not pre-register will not be allowed to participate in this year’s parade,” Brazzel said.
Brazzel emphasized that all horses will have to show proof of current Coggins test before being allowed to participate in the parade, according to state law.
No candy throwing and no loud music will be allowed.
