Michele Bachmann announced Wednesday morning that she is suspending her campaign for president after a poor showing in her native state. Bachmann finished with only 5 percent of the vote in Iowa, finishing ahead only of Jon Huntsman (1 percent).

On Tuesday night, Mitt Romney defeated Rick Santorum by only eight votes in the Iowa caucuses; it was the closest presidential GOP vote in history, with both candidates securing 25 percent of the vote. Ron Paul was third with 21 percent, followed by Newt Gingrich (13) and Rick Perry (10). Bachmann and Huntsman both finished in the single digits.
