  • A “man with a gun” call was worked by Hope Police Department officers on June 16 at approximately 3:30 p. m. and resulted in two people being cited and released and two people going to the Hempstead County Detention Facility.
The call was in reference to the 1700 block of W. 6th St. in Hope and officers were told that a physical altercation between neighbors had occurred and a black male wearing a white tank top and khaki shorts pulled a gun on the caller.
Officers arrested Rodrick Talley, 26, of Hope, for aggravated assault and carrying a weapon. Fleshia Carthorne, 40, of Hope, was arrested for a foreign warrant with Hempstead County and she was cited for third degree battery.
Natashia Willis, 23, of Hope, was cited for third degree battery, and Ira Baker, 20, of Hope was cited for third degree battery.
Willis and Baker were released at the scene. A pistol-grip AK-47 with a high capacity magazine and live rounds were recovered at the scene, according to Hope Police Department Assistant Chief Kim Tomlin.
Talley and Carthorne were transported to the Hempstead County Detention Facility. Talley was held for a first appearance and Carthorne was held for Hempstead County.
Another case involving a gun was taken care of by Hope police officers on June 17.
At approximately 9:30 a. m., a detective of the Hope Police Department observed Devonte Barker in the lobby of the Hope Police Department, according to Tomlin.
She said the detective made contact with Barker and arrested him on an active warrant for aggravated assault and engaging in violent criminal group activity.
Barker was booked into the Hempstead County Detention Facility on the warrant.
The warrant is the result of an ongoing investigation into a shots-fired incident that occurred on May 24, 2014, at approximately 12:20 p. m. in the 1300 block of North Walker Street in Hope, according to Tomlin. On that date, witnesses reported that Barker and several other individuals got into an exchange of gunfire after a physical fight that had occurred between several of the individuals the day before, Tomlin said.
