  • The Hope Ladycats capped off a impressive win on the diamond against the Lakeside Lady Rams 3-2 on Thursday at Ladycat Stadium for 5A South Conference play.
    Ladycats and Lakeside exchanged the lead five times on Thursday, but Ladycats ended up on top in eight innings over Lakeside.
    Ladycats took the lead in the eighth inning and held on for the victory. A fielder's choice scored Oshiana Pree and gave Ladycats the lead for good.
    The Ladycats was led by Oshiana's hitting. Oshiana went 2-4 and scored two runs. She singled in the third inning and doubled in the fifth inning.
    Haylee Lewis picked up the win for Ladycats. Haylee pitched eight innings and allowed no earned runs, three hits and three walks while striking out four.
    Kayla Clark couldn't get it done on the rubber for Lakeside, taking a loss. She lasted just 7 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed two runs.
    The bottom of the first saw Ladycats take an early lead, 1-0.
    Ladycats quickly matched Lakeside's strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the third. Ladycats scored on an error.
    For the game: Ladycats' Quiana Key scored one run and had two stolen bases; Pree scored two runs, had two hits with a double; Lewis had one hit with a double; Sarah Grace Brown had one RBI; Voss had one hit with a double.
    Today, the Ladycats will enter tournament play to face Dover at 5:30 p.m. at Ladycat Stadium in the 2014 Debra McMaster Memorial Scholarship softball tournament this weekend. The Ladycats are the first champions of the D-Mac tourney back in it tournament debut in 2011. Games will be played at Fair Park and Kelly Fields.
