  • SALT LAKE CITY - For the design-savvy and amateurs alike, medals, venues, torches and logos are all anticipated parts of the Olympic Games. Modern and digitized, Sochi's logo is the first to feature a web address as part of its design. Reading "Sochi.ru" or "Sochi2014.ru" - both URLs work - the logo that will be featured on everything from merchandise and signage to medals and uniforms is a constant reminder of the website. "To prove our commitment to innovation, Sochi 2014 will have a clearly digital Games emblem. Today, we welcome tomorrow," said Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the International Olympic Committee, about the logo in a press release. "We are offering an invitation, an icon and an inspiration to people from across the world to celebrate the thrill of Russia's first Olympic Winter Games." In addition to featuring the games' web address, the logo also mirrors the typeface of "Sochi" and "2014." Some have said it is a clumsy attempt at playfulness, while some have called it simple and straightforward following London's controversial design.%3Cimg%20src%3D%22http%3A//beacon.deseretconnect.com/beacon.gif%3Fcid%3D134642%26pid%3D46%22%20/%3E
