Local and state law enforcement officers closed an undercover drug investigation here on the day after Christmas with an arrest. Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton said in a press statement Friday that Ismael Aranda, Jr., 18, of Hope, was arrested and booked into the Hempstead County Detention Center on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, and possession of cocaine with purpose to deliver. Singleton said the arrest stemmed from the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 3200 block of Arkansas Highway 29 north of Hope by HCSO deputies, agents of the South Central Drug Task Force, Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Game and Fish Officers. “Over the past several weeks undercover agents were able to purchase various amounts of methamphetamine from Aranda in several locations in Hempstead County,” Singleton said. “A search warrant was obtained for the residence where officers discovered what is believed to be methamphetamine, powder cocaine and U. S. currency in the residence.” Singleton said a 2009 Dodge Challenger and $8,364 in U.S. currency were seized in the raid. He said Aranda remained in custody Friday awaiting an initial court appearance.
