The Arkansas State Fair which was held recently in Little Rock saw several Hempstead County youth come away with awards for the animals that they showed.
Winners in the Open Division included Keely Plyler, of Hope, who won Grand Champion and Arkansas Champion Female in the Open Charolais, and Reserve Grand Champion Bull shown by Grady Gentry, of Hope.
In the Open Semental class, Sara Sweat, of McCaskill, took Grand Champion and Arkansas Champion female in the show.
Winners in the Junior Division included Grand Champion female in the Junior Charolais class included Keely Plyler, of Hope.
In the Breeding Swine category, Kyle England took Reserve Champion female and Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion boar.
In the Junior Berkshire category, England also took Reserve Grand Champion Female, and Reserve Grand Champion boar.
Youth participating in 4-H Clubs and Future Farmers of America have the opportunity each year to exhibit live animal projects, beginning at the Hempstead County Fair level and advancing through the Southwest Arkansas Livestock Show in September.
