  • Lions Club to host district gathering

  • The Lions Club District 7-L convention will be held Friday evening and Saturday at Hempstead Hall on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope.

  • The Lions Club District 7-L convention will be held Friday evening and Saturday at Hempstead Hall on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. On Friday night, a hamburger supper will be hosted by the Prescott Lions Club and fellowship will be held from 6-8 p. m. The conference begins at 8 a. m. on Saturday and from 8-9 a. m. there will be a time of registration and refreshments. At 9 a. m. a call to order will be held with the presentation of colors by the Hope Boy Scout Troop 5. The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Second Vice District Governor Maxine Crittenden. Invocation will be given by Lion Terry Chapman and Mayor Dennis Ramsey is scheduled to welcome attendees to the conference. Dr. Jennifer Methvin, UACCH vice chancellor for academics, will welcome everyone to UACCH, and District Governor James Griffin will introduce and recognize the leaders and members of the Lions Club. The International Lions Club has for its theme this year, “Follow Your Dream” and a video will be shown emphasizing that theme. The keynote speaker will be past International Director Mike Butler. An election by voting delegates with nominations and credentials will be held, with Lion Kinney Black in charge. A memorial service by First Vice District Governor Bob DeVinney will be held and a Liberty Day presentation will be given by Lion Robert Orren. An informative program by Lion Brad Baker will be given on Mid-South Sight and Hearing Services by John Gill, of the National Camp for the Blind, during a dinner presentation featuring the world-famous Hope Lions Club catfish. Susy Phillips will address the crowd on World Services for the Blind next, while Lion Suzanne Cain will follow up with information on the Arkansas Lions Eye Bank. Lion Jim Podawiltz will speak on the Lions of Arkansas Foundation and the Lions Club International Foundation will be discussed by Lion Dave DeGraff. Past District Governor Wanda Barnett will take the floor and speak about Mutliple District 7 Headquarters, and District Governor James Griffin will announce the awards and elections results. Giffin will also give announcements and final remarks of the convention. The benediction will be given by Past District Governor Claude Jamerson. The convention will convene with a District 7-L cabinet meeting.
