A multiplicity of health services will be available for the whole family at the 18th annual Hope Coalition Family Health Expo set for Saturday at Hope Fair Park Coliseum. Hempstead County Health Unit Administrator Jeannine Wilson said the doors will open at 10 a.m. and events will continue until 2 p.m. “The Family Health Expo will have many local agencies providing health information and screenings in a fun atmosphere,” Wilson said. “There will be a jump house and slide, refreshments and many great door prizes, including bicycles.” The LifeShare Bloodmobile will be open for blood donations, as well, she said. “Donating blood is a safe procedure and with one donation you can help up to three people,” Wilson said. Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope will provide screenings for cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels, and fasting after midnight Friday is recommended for the cholesterol screening, she said. “They will also be providing PSA screening for men, which is a blood screening for prostate cancer,” Wilson said. Begun in 1996 as an initiative of the Hope Rotary Club and the Hempstead County Health Unit to increase childhood immunization rates in Hempstead County, the annual event is the outgrowth of the Shots for Tots program begun under former Arkansas first lady Janet Huckabee, and has grown into a full-scale screenings program. Agencies participating in the program include Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope, the Hope Fire Department, Premier Central, Inc., Coffee Family Dental, Hempstead County Office of Child Support Enforcement, Department of Human Services, Department of Community Corrections, Hope Water and Light Corp., LifeShare Blood Center, Juggernauts Motorcycle Club, Hair Hut, Hope Haven Retirement Home, Hope Police Department, Smiles of Arkansas, Tyson Foods, Rainbow of Challenges, Hope Junior Auxiliary, Laurel Place Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hope Public Schools, Arkansas Domestic Violence Prevention, Pafford Emergency Medical Services, Arkansas Department of Health, and Women of Hope. Coffee, BancorpSouth, Hair Hut, Juggernauts Motorcycle Club, Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope Auxiliary, Hope from Hope, Inc., Women of Hope, Dr. Ladell Douglas, and Rainbow of Challenges.
