Samuel "Sambo" McGill, 78 of Otisville, Mich., formerly of Blevins, died Friday, September 6, 2013, at McLaren Hospital, Flint, Mich. Sambo, as he was affectionately called, was born August 30, 1935, in Prescott, to proud parents Fred and Bertha Carmon McGill, Sr. He served in the United States Army, and went on to work for General Motors, later retiring from Buick City. Residing in Otisville, Mich., "Sambo" loved the country life! In the country he found joy in growing crops and fishing, but most of all he loved to sit back in his recliner. While relaxing in the recliner, he enjoyed watching the news and reading the newspaper. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Bernice McGill, Hazel Burton, Lorene Patterson, Nathaniel McGill, Adaniel McGill and Lemuel McGill. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Cindy McGill, of Flint, Mich.; two grandchildren, Karneishia Nelson, of Flint, Mich., and Karinzo Thompson, of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Sarah Hill and Louisa Marshall; brother, Fred (Ethel) McGill, Jr.; and, special sister-in-law, Gladine McGill Wilson, all of Blevins. The family would like to express special thanks to LeArtis Brown, Lee Marshall and James Davis of Michigan. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 14, at noon in Greenhill A.M.E. Church, 2850 Hempstead County Road 16, Prescott. Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery.
