Holiday hours for local public offices are being set for the annual Independence Day celebration July 4. Most public offices and other facilities will be closed on July 4 for the holiday; however, extended closings are planned by some and have yet to be arranged by others. Hempstead County Courthouse offices will be closed on July 4, and there is a possibility of an extended closure, according to the Hempstead County Judge's Office. Changes will be announced prior to the July 4 holiday. As a result, garbage collection changes will also be announced later. Hope City Hall and city facilities will be closed July 4, and residential trash collection for July 4 will be early on July 3. Regular collections will resume on July 5. Commercial garbage collection will continue as normal, and the city landfill will be closed on July 4, according to Sanitation Superintendent Nathaniel Holyfield. There will be no rubbish collection during the week, Holyfield said. Hope Water and Light Corp. offices will be closed on July 4, but the Hempstead County Public Library will be closed July 4 and 5. The William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site will be open on July 4, operating on its regular schedule. The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope campus offices will be closed July 4 and 5, in keeping with the holiday and the summer schedule for campus offices.
