  • Billy G. Schmitt, 86 of Hope, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, in Hope. Mr. Schmitt was born September 18, 1926, in Gordon, Texas, to James Jacob and Bertie Mae Mitchell Schmitt. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and an active member of the Hope Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He worked for the Arkansas Specialty Machine Shop and Cox Brothers Machine Shop of Hope. The largest part of his life was spent as a poultry and cattle farmer, where he served as a member of the Hempstead County and Nevada County Cattleman's Association, as well as the Arkansas Cattleman's Association. He served as a member of the Laneburg School Board for 10 years and served five years as the President of the board. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Southwest Arkansas Christian School of Hope, or to the Hope Church of Christ youth department. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jacob Schmitt and Bertie Mae Mitchell Schmitt, of Emmet; one sister, Eva Adeline Burke, of Hope; and one brother, James Hubert Schmitt, of Emmet. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Minnie Ella Green Schmitt; one sister, Marguerite Williams, of Rosston; one sister-in-law, Nadra June Jessup and Devere Jessup, of Perrytown; five sons, Charles Richard Schmitt and Gina Hafner Schmitt, of Big Flat, Carroll Hayden Schmitt and Kelly Huff Schmitt, of Hope, Hubert Stanley Schmitt, of Hope, William Gregory Schmitt, of Emmet, and George Alan Schmitt and Sherry Davis Schmitt, of Emmet. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, Charles Bradley Schmitt and Anada, of Fayetteville, Rachel Dawn Moore and Trey, of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Gail Perry and Daniel, of Texarkana, Thomas Hayden Schmitt and Elizabeth, of Greenbriar,, Hayley Brooke Schmitt, of Hope, Jessi Annette Still and Hunter, of Warsaw, Ill., Jordan Stanley Schmitt, of Prescott, Jana Leigh Schmitt, of Warsaw, Ill., Joshua Gregory Schmitt and Emily, of Rosemary Beach, Fla., Ashley Marie Dalrymple and Boyd, of West Monroe, La., Paige Jamison, of Texarkana, Texas, Christopher Wade Schmitt and Rosemary, of Roscoe, Texas, Kayla Diane Harmon and Robby, of Texarkana,, Keri Renee Jackson and Chris, of Abilene, Texas, William Jacob Dearinger and Cassie, of Hope, and Callie Rebekah Fore and Chris, of Laneburg. Other survivors include 13 great-grandchildren, Marriah Leslie Schmitt, of Fayetteville, Dacie Ella Perry, of Texarkana, Victoria Katherine Moore, Caroline Marley Moore, and Jordan Moore, of Dallas, Texas, Boyd Lee Dalrymple II (Bo) of West Monroe, La., Jade Zhoey Wellman and Keilea Wellman, of Texarkana, Kelsi Faith Parmer and Kaylee Patience Harmon, also of Texarkana, Aslynn Morgan Jackson, of Abilene, Texas, Thomas Cole Fore and Annison Claire Fore, of Laneburg, and Andrew Deleon and Leandra Deleon, of Roscoe, Texas. He also has many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home in Hope. Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at the Hope Church of Christ, with Barry Haynes and Harley Sisson officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
