Elder Martin Clyde Gordon, Sr., 73, of Hope, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in Heritage Nursing Home, in Texarkana, Texas. Elder Gordon was born July 1, 1939, in Rondo, to Willie and Selma Gordon, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ida Mae Gordon; two grandsons, and a brother-in-law. He graduated from R. R. Moton High School in 1958, and was retired from General Motors Corp., in Pontiac, Mich., after 37 years of excellent service. He received multiple awards, including a Declaration of Accomplishment from the State of Michigan. He served as a Trustee of New Greater St. John M.B.C., in Detroit, Mich., was ordained as a Deacon of Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church, of Detroit, Mich., and later was elevated to Elder under the spiritual authority of the Holy Ghost Full Gospel Ministries, of Detroit, Mich. He also loved gardening, traveling, fishing, bike riding and running. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Gordon; two sons, Tracey Gordon, of Arlington, Texas, and Martin Gordon, Jr., of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Kimberley Robinson, of Woodstock, Ga., and Mrs. Anquella Buchannan, of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers, Willie Lee Gordon, Sr., and Israel Clyde and Ira Lloyd Gordon; four sisters, Mrs. Florine Perry, Mrs. Essie Mae Collins, Mrs. Vera Joyce Hayes, and Mrs. Patricia Ann McKinney; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Buchanan Baptist Church in Stamps, with burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps, under the direction of A. O. Smith Funeral Home in Stamps. Rev. David Scruggs will officiate the services.
