Mary Francis Martin Burns, 76, of Hope, died Friday, February 22, 2013, in Spring Hill. She was born on December 29, 1936, to A.G. “Buck” and Glady's Minter Martin, of Spring Hill. Mrs. Burns was a member of Providence Baptist Church of Spring Hill. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years after graduating from Warner Browning School of Nursing, in El Dorado, at the age of 20. She spent most of her nursing career working with Dr. James W. Branch and continued to care for his patients by working with the physicians that took over his practice. She retired in 2010, but continued to care for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy N. Burns; and, two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Osburn and Dink Stoval. Her survivors include two sons, Billy Burns, Jr., and Marty Burns, both of Hope; two daughters, Cindy Burns Banks, of Springdale, and Betsy Burns Allen, of Hope; seven grandchildren, Mardi Gayle Burns, of Hope, Lyndsey and Reece Allen, of Hope; Chaley Kidd Holland, of Sherwood; Chase, Rynne, and Reid Banks, of Springdale; two step-grandchildren, Barry Foster, of California, and Chase Foster of Dekalb, Texas.; three sisters, Becky Martin Osburn, Patricia Martin Bobo, and Sue Martin Powell; one brother, Bud Martin; one brother-in-law, Thomas Burns and wife, Barbara, of Hope; two sisters-in-laws, Betty Curtis and husband, Dave, Jr., of Hope, and Peggy Stovall, of Lake Jackson, Texas; a host of family and friends; and special friend, Carolyn West. In her limited spare time she enjoyed reading and cooking with her grandchildren. She is dearly loved by many and will be missed greatly. Visitation was held Sunday, February 24, from 1 - 3 p.m. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home, in Hope, with services beginning at 3 p.m. in the Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Martin Cemetery, under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
