Funds which the Hope Tourism Board discussed at its last meeting are being put to use at the Kelly Fields baseball complex adjacent to Hope Fair Park.
Park employees Kirk Gray and Robin Lee have begun the work by tearing off each dugout roof at the baseball complex.
The roof consisted of tongue and groove type wood. Extensive renovations at Kelly Fields are in the works and the roofs of most of the dugouts will be replaced with netting, as will the chain-link fences that are there at the present time.
Several of the roofs were built in the 1970s using plywood and need to be replaced.
The concession stand will also get a facelift, according to Ronald Kidd, maintenance supervisor for the park.
Tearing down the roofs will last about six weeks, weather permitting.
Many improvements have been made to Kelly Fields since it was constructed in the 1970s.
