The Spring Hill Jr. Bears and Lady Bears basketball teams took the court for hoop action on this past Monday night in first round play in the Genoa Jr. High Tournament. The Jr. Lady Bears prevailed over the Lafayette County Jr. Lady Cougars 39-7. The Jr. Lady Bears took control the entire game for a 33-4 advantage at halftime over Lafayette County. In the second half, the Jr. Lady Bears out-scored Lafayette County 6-3 to be victorious to advance in tourney play. In the game, Jr. Lady Bears' Lacy Knox led scoring with nine points, Bailey Yocom and Julie Plant each scored six points apiece with Yocom snatching seven rebounds off the glass. Cheyenne Collins scored four points. Lilly Kidd also had four points with seven steals and three assists. Kaitlyn Ward posted two points, six steals with two assists and Cait Light contributed two points. With the win, the Jr. Lady Bears improve to 10-1 overall. The Jr. Bears faced off against tourney host team Genoa Jr. Dragons. The Jr. Bears fought hard but fell to Genoa, 35-28 exiting tournament play. The Jr. Bears had only a one-point deficit at halftime 18-17, but Genoa out-scored Spring Hill 17-11 in the second half. In the game, Jr. Bears' Hunter Whatley led scoring with nine points, Trey Finley posted eight points with two three-pointers swished from behind the arc. Alberto Rivera scored five points. Garrett Davis, Reed Barham and Colton Featherston each contributed two points apiece. The Jr. Lady Bears will continue Genoa Jr. High tourney play this Thursday January 10 at 4 p.m. facing the winner between Monday's game between Emerson vs. Fouke. Then, they'll return to conference play on Friday January 11 hosting Murfreesboro at Spring Hill Gymnasium.
