Finally retuning to the hardwood after the Christmas holiday break, the Hope Ladycats took the court for hoop action at Jones Field House Gymnasium on last Friday night to open 5A South Conference play. The Ladycats hosted the White Hall Lady Bulldogs for a competitive match-up in their first of two game conference series. The Ladycats took care of business behind senior Ladycats' Angelica Fulton posting a season-high 24 points to lift Hope over White Hall 54-46 to debut 2013 new year basketball action. The Ladycats got off to a great start out-scoring the Lady Bulldogs in the opening quarter. White Hall maintained a one point lead 5-4 at the 2:51 mark, but the Ladycats took over the quarter with baskets from Asia Wesley, Aliyah Kight and Fulton who swished a trey from behind the arc at the buzzer to give Hope a 12-7 advantage, ending first period play. In the second quarter, the Ladycats out-scored White Hall 6-5 as Hope headed into the locker room with a 20-12 lead over White Hall at halftime. In the second half, the Ladycats continued to build momentum as they increased their scoring to pour 22 points through the net in the third quarter, given Hope a 12 point lead 42-30 over White Hall heading into the final quarter of the night.In the fourth quarter, the Ladycats shined and added 12 points with scored baskets by Fulton (three points-trey), Wesley (six points) and Marissa Williams (three points – trey) to secure a huge and impressive eight point win over White Hall. The Lady Bulldogs nailed 16 points in the fourth quarter, but wasn't enough to escape for victory.In the game, Fulton led all scorers in double-figures with 24 points including three trey's made and Wesley posted 12 points in double-digits. Kight, Williams and Jasmyne Farris each contributed six points apiece with Williams nailing two trey's from behind the arc. For White Hall, M. Cowan led scoring in double-figures with 16 points.With the win, the Ladycats are 1-0 in conference ( 2-7 overall), they'll return to conference play this Tuesday, January 8 to face the Magnolia Lady Panthers on the road.
