  • The Hope Bobcats made a huge statement on this past Friday night to open 5A South Conference play for an out-standing victory over the White Hall Bulldogs, 60-53 at Jones Field House Gymnasium.
Bobcats' Vincent Love continues to do damage on the hardwood as he posted a season-high 33 points in the Cat's victory over White Hall. The Bobcats' defense came alive in the second half as Hope had to overcome a six point deficit at halftime, 33-27.
The Bobcats showed great chemistry on both ends of the court in the third and fourth quarters, but a tough White Hall team came ready to play maintaining the lead through the first three periods and down to 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
In the first half, Bobcats' K.J. Thompson was solid for the Cats' early scoring. Thompson led the way with 12 points including a two-handed monster dunk in the opening quarter as Vincent Love followed for eight points with three points added in the second quarter, giving him 11 points at halftime for Hope.
White Hall out-scored Hope 16-14 in the first quarter, then 17-13 in the second period, as the Bulldogs went into the locker room at halftime with the lead.
The Bobcats came out with momentum to score 16 points in the third quarter offensively, then added some full-court defensive pressure on the Bulldogs. White Hall matched Hope's intensity in the third to post 16 points as the Bulldogs headed into the final quarter of the night with a 49-43 lead over the Cats.
In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats overcame adversity as their defense willed them to victory. The Cats held White Hall to only four points scored in the fourth quarter. Big defensive stops came from Jonathan Palmer and Keaton Beasley providing big blocks that allowed the Cats' offensive attack to prevail and cause the come back.
Also Steven Caple and Tamarqus Love contributed big hustle plays on the defensive end. Big men Vincent Love and Thompson scored all of the Cats points in the fourth quarter with a strong scoring contribution by big man Darious Nelson in the third quarter.
The Cats tied the game at the 3:55 mark 51-51, then took their first lead at the 2:41 mark 53-51 in the second half with a basket from Vincent Love. The Cats didn't look back once they led late in the final period as Vincent Love iced the game with a basket in the closing seconds to send the Bulldogs home in defeat.
For the game, Vincent Love led all scorers, marking his first 30 plus point game this season and staying consistent thus far scoring in double-figures for all 10 of Hope's games. Thompson secured 17 points in double-digits for the Bobcats.
For White Hall, L. Davis led scoring in double-figures with 12 points and J'Breun Steen added 10 points.
