The Spring Hill Bears and Jr. Bears split basketball wins against the Lafayette County Cougars on last week for 7-2A West Conference play on the road.
In junior high boys action, the Jr. Bears had a competitive match-up against the Jr. Cougars in the first half.
In the opening quarter, the Jr. Bears and Jr. Cougars both were knotted at 4-4 to close out first period action. In the second quarter, the Jr. Cougars out-scored the Jr. Bears 9-5 as Spring Hill went into the locker room with a 13-9 halftime deficit. In the second half, the Jr. Cougars out-scored the Jr. Bears 31-6 as Lafayette County went on to a 44-15 win over Spring Hill.
In the game, Jr. Bears' Trey Finley led scoring with eight points and swished two trey's from behind the arc.
In the nightcap battle, the Bears matched up against the Cougars for a tough brawl on the hardwood. In the opening quarter, the Bears trailed the Cougars by two points 18-16 to close out first period action.
In the second quarter, the Bears took care of business out-scoring the Cougars 13-2 and held Lafayette County to only a basket in the quarter.
At halftime, the Bears marched into the locker room with a nine point lead over the Cougars, 29-20.In the second half, the Bears out-scored the Cougars 23-21 as both teams racked up the scoreboard for the third and fourth quarters. But in the end, the Bears would prevail for victory over the Cougars for a 52-41 win on the road in conference hoops action.
In the game, Bears' Boone Kidd led scoring in double-figures with 20 points and swished three trey's from behind the arc. Big man Kylan Ford posted 19 points for double-digits, Carter Yocom and Ryan Orr each scored six points apiece and West Smith added one point in the victory.
With the win, the Bears improve to 3-3 in conference play and 4-7 overall.
The Bears will return to the hardwood for conference play on Friday January 4 , 2013 facing the Dierks Outlaws on the road for the nightcap battle
